CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island teenager has been accused of hacking into his school district's computer system and posting information including Social Security numbers and medical records online.
Newsday reports (http://bit.ly/1betli2 ) that 17-year-old Matthew Calicchio is accused of hacking into the Sachem School District's computer system in 2012 and 2013.
Police say the Sachem North High School student posted the information online from July through this month.
Calicchio was arrested Friday and arraigned Saturday on a charge of felony computer trespass. He was released without bail.
An assistant district attorney said Calicchio confessed to accessing the data and posting it on the Internet.
But Calicchio's attorney, Steven Politi, called the teen an intelligent young man who does well in school and listens to his parents.
