MIAMI (AP) — A 9-year-old boy has been taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital after he was shot in the face during a drive-by shooting in Liberty City. Police say the boy was sleeping early today when a car drove past the house and started shooting. Witnesses told police it was a light-colored sports utility vehicle.

MIAMI (AP) — Authorities in South Florida say they plan to resume the search for a man who reportedly fell into the ocean from a small plane. The call for help came yesterday afternoon, when the pilot of a Piper PA 46 aircraft radioed "mayday, mayday, mayday," and told an air traffic controller that a door was ajar and a passenger had fallen from the plane.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida's insurance commissioner says the state will follow President Barack Obama's new transitional plan to keep health insurance coverage for Floridians. Commissioner Kevin McCarty says most health insurers in Florida have already voluntarily extended coverage for affected policyholders through 2014.
